BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON
WILDFIRE MITIGATIONPROJECT
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Beginning in May 2022, Rocky Mountain Power will begin construction in Big Cottonwood Canyon and will make improvements to overhead power lines to mitigate wildfire threats along State Road 190 (S.R. 190).
This project will replace segments of overhead power lines along S.R. 190 with underground conduit and upgrade existing overhead systems to withstand weather and environmental conditions to help prevent wildfires and provide safe, reliable power to the communities we serve.
Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with minimal night and weekend work. Construction is anticipated to last through late August 2022.
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Crews are currently working on the Brighton 1 Construction Segment between milepost (MP) 11 and 10 near Cardiff Fork. Beginning Monday, July 11, crews will be working between MP 10 and 9 near the Butler Fork Trailhead.

Expect one-way alternating traffic for one mile in this area. Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with minimal night and weekend work. Single lane closures will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the exception of holiday weekends. One-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers will be in place for special events to minimize congestion.

As part of the project construction, 8-inch-wide trenches have been dug along the roadway. Due to safety requirements, the trenches must be filled and paved before vehicles are allowed to travel on these sections of the roadway. Because of concrete and other materials shortages, the timeline for the trenches being filled is dependent upon the availability of these materials. There is also construction equipment that must be stored on-site, requiring that the traffic signal always remain in place. Rocky Mountain Power is adjusting the traffic signal timing on the weekends to minimize traffic impacts in the canyon.
